Vehicle Safety Requirements

Because safety doesn't happen by accident...

This is the minimum standard of equipment to be carried on a club vehicle. It is that which has been deemed sufficient for most situations especially when it can be pooled together for more serious incidents.

No ImageTowing Hooks: Purpose made steel towing hooks must be securely bolted to the front and rear of the chassis.  Only high tensile bolts should be used.

Shackle: All vehicles must carry a rated shackle stamped with its safe working load.  Minimum SWL 2000kg.

No ImageRecovery Strop: All vehicles must have a nylon recovery strop of 6 to 9 metres in length and with a breaking strain in excess of 7000kg. Lifting type of strops or chains are not acceptable for recovery as they have no stretch and can therefore impart dangerous loads to vehicles.

Fire Extinguisher: Each vehicle must carry a securely mounted and readily accessible fire extinguisher with a minimum capacity of 0.9kg

Roll Over Protection: A roll bar must be fitted to all open and soft top vehicles and is highly recommended for all vehicles.

Additional Equipment: A shovel or spade must be carried by each vehicle, along with an axe or other cutting implement and a basic set of tools.
