Club Championships

It's a serious business, bragging rights are at stake! Got to have some rules.

Each year the club holds a 3 round series of club Championships. These friendly competitions are open to all vehicles of Grade 3 and above. . The final points are from the best two rounds , allowing each competitor to miss out or drop one round.

The aim is to have as many vehicles as possible competing in these events with a suitable class for everyone. To compete, you must be a financial member of the club.

The emphasis is on having fun without trashing the truck (fingers crossed), friendly competition with a BBQ or social bite to eat at the end of each round. The rounds are usually about 5 weeks apart starting in mid June.

These are based loosely on national trials rules allowing some discretion as this is a fun event for all vehicle types.

The Drivers

The Course

The course consists of a number of obstacles known as hazards, usually about 10 are set before lunch and 10 after lunch depending on the time and number of vehicles.

Most of the graded hazards will be set so as to be easy at the start and more challenging as the hazard progreese.
This allows shiny vehicles to compete without putting themselves into dangerous positions yet still providing a serious challenge for more capable vehicles.

  • Each hazard begins at a pair of blue pegs and finishes at a pair of blue pegs.
  • The course boundary is maked with yellow pegs to the left and red pegs to the right.
  • If you knock over a peg or go outside the course, you incur the points at the previous marked peg.
  • The scoring begins when the first hub crosses the start and finishes as son as forward movement stops, the vehicle is outside the course or the first hub crosses the finish line.
  • A vehicle is deemed to have left the course if all four wheels are outside the boundary markers.
  • Once a vehicle looses forward motion, it must stop driving immediately and leave thehazard without completing it. This may mean backing off or being towed clear so as not to further damage the course.
  • Flexible pegs can be bent down until the head touches the ground before incurring a penalty.
  • As soon as one of the vehicle's front hubs crosses the start line the competitor's score for the hazard is reduced from 200 to 100 points.
  • At each pair of pegs the points are reduced further, usually by 20, sometimes by 10 or 15 until passing one hub across the finish line gives the competitor a perfect zero.

Speed Sections

A speed section usually consists of a timed circuit, where the vehicle must start and stop in an area between four blue pegs, known as a “garage", and complete the allotted course in the shortest time.

The course is still marked with yellow and red pegs and each one knocked out incurs a penalty. Timing starts as soon as the vehicle is rolling and stops when the complete vehicle is stationary inside the garage. There is no penalty for loss of forward motion. If a vehicle leaves the course, it must reenter at the same point.
